Paul Rivett will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Mondello Park, County Kildare, Ireland, over the weekend of 23/24 July when he becomes the latest driver to guest in the car entered by Porsche Cars GB with Team Autosport. For Rivett, a former double Renault Clio racing champion, the Irish encounter will not only be his first motor sports drive of the season but he will also be racing at Mondello for the first time - and also racing the 180mph Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for the first time.

"I’m really looking forward to it," says the 26-year old from Banstead, Surrey. "I’ve driven some powerful, rear-wheel drive cars in the USA and raced karts and single-seaters earlier in my career, but this will be very different. I’m going in at the deep end, but that just makes you concentrate! This will be a chance to see how I compare with the big boys."

Having won his second Clio title in 2004, Rivett has not raced this season. However, he is hoping that the Carrera Cup outing will be a springboard towards a fulltime return in 2006. "I’m certainly working on plans to go racing again next year."

"I want to say a big thank you to Porsche and Autosport for giving me the chance to get out in something that I wouldn’t normally get to drive," says Rivett. His first experience of the 390bhp 911 GT3 Cup car will be during pre-race testing at Mondello on Friday.
