CASTROL’S “BEST OIL IN 100 YEARS”

Touring car hero Matt Neal, celebrates his second consecutive British Touring Car Championship win at Silverstone. Driving his Castrol EDGE-supported Team Halfords Honda Integra, he had once again won the Dunlop MSA BTCC by the first round of the day. After the final three tightly-fought races at the Northamptonshire circuit, Neal (aged 39, from Hanbury, Worcestershire), sealed the Championship with a fourth, a win and did-not-start, securing Britain’s premier touring car championship with 289 points, 48 points clear of his nearest rival.

Going to Silverstone with a clear points advantage, many assumed Championship victory for Neal’s ‘privateer’ entry, but the 2006 BTCC has been fiercely-fought and nothing was assured with Jason Plato and Colin Turkington in positions to snatch Championship victory. With his 35 point lead over Plato going into the race, Team Halfords were confident but not complacent. The 2006 BTCC champion is now the first driver to retain the BTCC crown since 1987 (Chris Hodgetts).

Good driving, team management and excellent race car preparation have all played their part, but it was also acknowledged that Castrol EDGE played its part: “We have no doubt that this remarkable synthetic oil has played a crucial role in our success”, commented Olly Collins, Team Manager, Team Halfords. “Its ability to increase power consistently while reducing engine wear is truly remarkable”.

Castrol EDGE is the company’s fully-synthetic, premium engine oil range, designed for passionate drivers, no matter how fast or hard they drive. Collins continues:
“We strip down the engine after every race weekend, and can see that Castrol EDGE helps keep the critical components of the engine cleaner. This ensures our performance levels are maintained throughout the race, minimising wear and tear and maximising reliability. There’s an old adage in motor racing – to finish first, first you have to finish, and by using Castrol EDGE we are giving ourselves the best possible chance to win.

“We can also see a specific advantage in the performance of the engine by using Castrol EDGE. The Castrol R&D team who developed the range saw increases of up to 5 BHP in engines tested using Castrol EDGE against competitor brands, and this obviously plays a hugely important role in our performance.”
